Purpose
Cooperating agencies play a critical role in federal land management. This symposium will provide a venue for federal, state, county, Tribal, and local government partners to understand emerging organizational, policy, regulatory, and capacity changes affecting land management, strengthen intergovernmental coordination, and identify opportunities for effective collaboration across planning, program implementation, and wildfire management.
Objectives
Understand Emerging Changes Affecting Forest Management
· Understand organizational, regulatory, policy, and capacity changes affecting federal, state, local, and Tribal partners.
· Identify how those changes may affect land management and create opportunities for stronger intergovernmental collaboration.
Strengthen Coordination
· Build a shared understanding of the NEPA cooperating agency process, Forest Service land management planning, and how planning shapes project development and implementation.
· Identify ways to strengthen coordination before, during, and beyond formal planning processes.
Identify New Opportunities for Effective Collaboration
· Explore practical approaches for governments to work together on planning, prioritization, project implementation, and monitoring.
· Identify opportunities to combine resources, authorities, funding, data, and expertise to advance wildfire management, restoration, and other shared resource priorities.
