Background
In 2021, Wyoming counties established the WCCA Congressional Tour Initiative to foster genuine, nonpartisan dialogue between Wyoming communities and federal policymakers. Each year, the initiative brings together 15–20 senior congressional staffers—balanced across political affiliations and representing diverse regions of the country—to experience Wyoming’s landscapes, industries, and communities firsthand. The multi-day tour immerses participants in issues of national significance and local impact, including energy development, natural resource management, public land stewardship, agriculture, wildlife conservation, recreation, and rural economies.
Wyoming’s counties collaborate to host the tour in a different region each year, ensuring all 23 counties are featured over a five-year rotation. Nearly half of Wyoming’s surface area and two-thirds of its subsurface are federally managed, making collaboration with Washington essential to the state’s future. Through on-the-ground experiences and candid discussions with county commissioners, legislators, agency leaders, and citizens, the WCCA Congressional Tour Initiative strengthens mutual understanding and encourages informed policymaking. By showcasing Wyoming’s challenges, successes, and stewardship ethic, the initiative builds lasting partnerships and bridges divides that too often hinder progress on natural resource and public land issues.
